We rise by lifting others. – Robert Ingersoll
We’re kicking off the New Year with a conversation about achieving your dream job. For some of you, maybe 2016 is the year you have set out to achieve the job of dreams. If that’s the case, I hope you do!
But today’s podcast is a little different. We’re looking at this topic from the angle of how leaders can help those on their teams and in their spheres of influence achieve dream jobs – even if it’s not within their existing organization. Stick with me here…
As the point leader in our organization, Southwest Michigan First, I believe it’s my responsibility to help the leaders on our team fulfill their dreams. Part of this comes from a lesson I learned from a terrible boss early on in my career and part of it comes from the belief that if we want to retain great talent, we have to give people choice and opportunity so they make a conscious choice to stay with our team instead of feeling stuck.
I know it sounds…well, a little crazy – but I encourage you to listen in today and hear us out. This is a strategy that has helped us achieve huge success both with high engagement levels of our team members and winning nationally-recognized employer awards.
In addition to today’s podcast, a great resource on this topic for further development is The Dream Manager by Matthew Kelly. Our team read this book together for book club last year and I believe you’ll take away a lot of great insight from it too.
Question: How can you help someone else achieve a dream of theirs this year?
